“And what of you? Do you think it unattainable?" The question was an interesting one but the bard considered everything possible. Yet what was predictable was self interest and self preservation. What motivation does one individual have for treating another well when treating them badly was easier? She wondered if she was jaded or realistic, and found she only shrugged in response to the question. Why dampen the other's hope? "You are a human; from what I have seen, you treat elves no differently than any other. Even if mere indifference on your part, it is still better than claiming us as inferior. I choose to believe I will find more such as you.”

Find more like her? That there might be more, that there even could be more, was a tragic thought. "Maker, I hope not," Olivie replied quietly. "Wherever your answer lies, I hope it is not with more people like me. You wish universal compassion, not uniform lack of it." What it took to become what she was, what one individual had to inflict upon another, it would not solve anyone's issues. She stopped and looked up at the night sky. "The one you should ask is Leliana. Our hearts were like our hair, as odd as that may sound. The mistress was dark and evil, I am devoid of color, but Leliana's heart is full and red.

Turning her gaze back to Kaiera, she said, "Come, let us sleep quickly so that we may be on the road at first light." There were packages to deliver and a trail to follow. They had taken an entire day in this town. She again thought of her fellow bard and wondered, for neither the first nor the last time, if she would find a sister or a corpse.

The other’s reply had been nothing short of utter disapproval. "Maker, I hope not," You hope?

It was a notion as interesting as it was frustrating that, with all their time in each other’s company, Kaiera still did not understand the human she traveled with; though, she imagined Olivie did not understand even herself at certain times. "Wherever your answer lies, I hope it is not with more people like me." People of open mind? "You wish universal compassion, not uniform lack of it."

The elf’s brow rose in question, confusion tuning her features. "And what is your definition of compassion? You are still the same woman whom claimed you would not leave or standby at the sign of danger; are you not? I would have not made it this far without you –” it was not a harsh fact to admit, merely an honest one, “is that not its own kindness?”

A pair of feet slowed in its tracks and she followed, brown eyes suddenly seeking the night sky; "The one you should ask is Leliana. Our hearts were like our hair, as odd as that may sound. The mistress was dark and evil, I am devoid of color, but Leliana's heart is full and red."

To that, Kaiera could not resist a smile: the statement was so pure, somewhat childlike in its simplicity, yet there was a depth to it that the elf knew only Olivie would truly understand. “Nothing but praise leaves your lips for this Leliana, and there is always a change when you say her name -- how did she earn such devotion?” The question was left with a deft inflection, one that gave the choice for this query to be rhetoric or active. "But it is not so unfamiliar for one to become attached..." There was only the slightest hesitation as the words left her, statement slipping her mind's vigilance and passing the guard of her lips, "Aure was capable of astounding compassion, though many would not believe so from her aloof demeanor; many would not believe her penchant for small animals and the lengths she would go to aid them." Her smile grew, if only by a fraction. "My point;" do I have one? "I imagine, if your Leliana is as charitable as you say, she would not befriend a person lacking similar qualities." The statement was a conscious effort on her part, the elf not questioning why she felt such an inclination to convincing her companion that she was not as lacking as she herself believed.

A few moments of relative silence passed as the both before Olivie's eyes parted with the sky and looked to her. "Come, let us sleep quickly so that we may be on the road at first light."

Kaiera merely nodded, wondering if any of her earlier queries would be remarked upon as they continued on.
