Of course, Evelyn knew how to adjust the heat in the simplest manner possible – shifting the flask away from the flame. In his earlier days of experimentation, Anders had simply got in the habit of breaking off the bottom of the candle, moving the source of the heat further away and thus allowing the liquid to cool a while. It wasn’t an exact science by any means, and he recalled ruefully a few experiments that had quite literally blown up in his face because he hadn’t reduced the heat enough and the glass had exploded. If only he’d worked out Evelyn’s methods at twenty…

Evelyn asked if she could copy down the recipes he had added to the book and he nodded. “Of course. In exchange, if you see any improvement that can be made, would you mind letting me know? Anything to improve the effectiveness of a recipe is always welcome, and given that one of our latest recruits is prone to messing around with poisons I suspect I’m going to be needing all the help I can get with antidotes before long.”

Apparently with the idea of sharing knowledge amongst healers in mind, Evelyn offered Caitriona the opportunity to copy the information in her ever-evolving notebook, and the Dalish woman responded by hugging the other woman. Anders couldn’t help a good-natured chuckle as Caitriona babbled in excitement.

"OhmygoodnessIjusthadthebestidea! We could make a book out of all these and then get it written out. That way we could help all sorts of people!"

“I know a printer in Amaranthine,” Anders offered. The idea had been in his head a while but he hadn’t got around to suggesting it to Evelyn yet. “If you’re willing, I can collate everything here with your help, and have everything bound and printed in a full book. Although we should save that until we’ve explored all of the options that cross-breeding elfroot gives us. What do you think?”

Caitriona had turned to him. "Are you in the city for some time? Wait...why are you here anyway? Is it darkspawn? Oh! I knew it! There's invisible darkspawn in the city! Auri, Sylaise bless her, told me all about them but I thought they didn't follow me into the city because I didn't hear their grunting anymore but they did! I'm sorry I didn't mean to!”

The woman’s attitude had rapidly gone from bubbly to frantic and Anders gawped at her a moment. “Vanishing darksp…” He shouldn’t laugh, he really shouldn’t given that she looked so worried, but the corner of his mouth twitched regardless. “I’m sure you’ll be glad to hear that I am not here because of darkspawn. I’m actually in Highever on an invite from the teyrn to attend his wedding.” Had Evelyn been invited? She had better, she had masterminded the cure, after all… “I am afraid Auriana may have been pulling your leg. As far as the Wardens are aware there isn’t such a thing as vanishing darkspawn, unless she was referring to an emissary casting some sort of cloaking spell. Was that it?”

He was probably going to have to have words with Auriana when he got back to the Keep – alarming people by making up entirely new forms of darkspawn wasn’t exactly the aim of the Wardens. And if she had seen darkspawn that vanished into thin air, it had better get reported immediately.

Caitriona and Anders wanted to make Evelyn’s notebook into a real, official book. Evelyn would be lying if she said that the idea didn’t give her an honest-to-goodness thrill, but were the contents of her notebook that she handed out good enough to be published? She had her doubts. It seemed like it would be inviting more criticism than she dared think about if she had her work published like that.

Still, they both seemed to think that it was a good idea, so who was Evelyn to stop them? “I think that getting more information on the different varieties of elfroot is a good idea,” she said with a nod of her head, “but perhaps that would be a second book’s worth of information? I think there’s a definite possibility for a volume just for breeding and cross-breeding different varieties of elfroot.” She smiled at Caitriona. “I’d hate for someone reading to be distracted from your work with somebody else’s recipes.”

Caitriona and Anders went on to discuss how Anders had ended up in Highever again. It turned out that Anders was in the city to attend Teyrn Cousland and Raelene’s wedding. He’d made a very good impression on them, indeed, when he was there during the plague, hadn’t he? Evelyn smiled at the Grey Warden mage. She wasn’t surprised, especially with his personable demeanor and obvious intention to do good where he could.

“I’m glad I’ll know somebody else at the wedding, then,” she said with a smile. “I mean, Andy and Iain will probably have to perform guard duty, and while I’ve met a fair number of people around town, I don’t know them well enough to even ask if they’ve been invited.”

“I am afraid Auriana may have been pulling your leg. As far as the Wardens are aware there isn’t such a thing as vanishing darkspawn, unless she was referring to an emissary casting some sort of cloaking spell. Was that it?”

Caitríona shook her head, her face scrunched up a bit as she considered Anders' words. Why would Auri lie to her? That just didn't make any sense. Besides, the elf knew that her friend wasn't lying.

"They're real." she told the Grey Warden emphatically. "I saw...alright, well I didn't see them because they're invisible but I heard them! There were two of them. Right near Auri and William's tent! They were grunting a groaning and panting and it was terrible. But they're very much real."

She nodded for extra emphasis, turning and watching Evelyn with earnest interest as she considered if they should publish their book.

“I think that getting more information on the different varieties of elfroot is a good idea,” the woman considered. “but perhaps that would be a second book’s worth of information? I think there’s a definite possibility for a volume just for breeding and cross-breeding different varieties of elfroot.”

The elf bite her lip in thought for a moment. Multiple volumes of work seemed like a long endeavor. It almost seemed better to compile everything right away. But she admitted that would not be all too practical. In truth, the prospect of a book simply only elfroot excited her; she just worried that the shem might not be willing to give it a chance if they knew an elf played a large role in it's writing.

She didn't voice the concern completely though. "I can start to write a little bit more on the subject. In detail, that is. But we'll focus on whatever Miss Evelyn's been working on first. It's only fair."

She sat down on the floor as that, fidgeting a bit as she watched Evelyn and Anders chat.

“I’m glad I’ll know somebody else at the wedding, then,” she said with a smile. “I mean, Andy and Iain will probably have to perform guard duty, and while I’ve met a fair number of people around town, I don’t know them well enough to even ask if they’ve been invited.”

"Oh? You're both going to the wedding!? That's so exciting! You both must know Lady Rae and Fergus very well then. Well, what am I saying, of course you do. I know all about the plague and what you both did. You know I met them both but I'm not going to the wedding. Not that I was expecting it but I did tell them that if they needed a healer around, I was around! Still no word from them though.."

Caitriona was unconvinced by Anders’ sceptical remarks on the nature of the vanishing darkspawn, i.e. that they didn’t exist. He should be more irritated by Auriana’s choice of deception; even though this would have been before she became a Warden, who made up new varieties of darkspawn to scare people with? There was enough to be scared of as it was!

However, he couldn’t quite manage to keep a straight face as the elf presented her evidence for believing in the existence of the creatures. "I saw...alright, well I didn't see them because they're invisible but I heard them! There were two of them. Right near Auri and William's tent! They were grunting a groaning and panting and it was terrible. But they're very much real."

Anders bit his lip. It really didn’t take a genius to put groaning and panting noises together with the close proximity of two people to figure out what had been going on. It was a little endearing in a way; Caitriona was probably very naïve in that area not to have recognised the sounds for what they were. Should he fill her in on what had actually been going on, or leave it for the moment?

Caitriona had become absorbed in watching Evelyn work, so Anders settled on holding his tongue for now and then he and the elf could talk when they saw each other to talk over whatever it was that she’d specifically wanted to speak with him about.

Evelyn suggested that printing both the recipe book and the studies on elfroot in the same volume might not be the wisest course; the dissertation on the effects of different varieties of elfroot could stand alone, a statement with which Anders agreed. There would be a lot there; not just the different effects, but how, once mingled, they affected the various potions of which they were part. Writing down the various formulae, their effects, as well as the ways of identifying the different varieties, would definitely be worth at least one tome. Two if they got wordy about it.

“I agree. We can work on both together and note when one bit of research compliments another, but having a separate book for somebody to study purely about the differences would be useful. Or at the very least, we could have them as two volumes of the same book? Part one, recipes, part two, a dissertation on elfroot.”

Caitriona looked a bit hesitant about the idea. "I can start to write a little bit more on the subject. In detail, that is. But we'll focus on whatever Miss Evelyn's been working on first. It's only fair."

Anders agreed, then went on to answer the elf’s questions about why he was in Highever, and smiled as Evelyn confirmed that she would be at the wedding as well. “I mean, Andy and Iain will probably have to perform guard duty, and while I’ve met a fair number of people around town, I don’t know them well enough to even ask if they’ve been invited.”

Well, you’ll have me to cause some trouble with,” he grinned. “Even if trouble in this case amounts to eating all the teyrn’s food.”

Caitriona had perked up at the mention of the wedding. Sort of.

“I wouldn’t be offended by that,” Anders said in what he hoped was a reassuring tone. “They have their own healer mage at the castle; I gather she’s pretty much permanently based there with her templar. They’ve also got an infirmary. Also…” he spread his hands. “It’s sort of a good thing that they haven’t had to call for a healer in the week before their wedding, right? Otherwise something would probably have gone wrong and Maker knows they’ve dealt with enough of that already.”

The ‘invisible darkspawn’ were groaning and grunting and panting …. near a tent with two people in it? Really?

REALLY?

Evelyn supposed she might have fallen for that before just a few months prior, when a certain blonde-haired, green-eyed knight assisted her in the quest to discover as many of those types of sounds as possible, but she hoped she would not have fallen for it so wholeheartedly. Evelyn risked a glance at Anders to see he was fighting a grin, and her suspicions were confirmed.

What did one say in such a situation? Reason and the unwillingness to trick her newest friend and colleague warred with keeping proper manners, and this time manners won out. Evelyn also didn’t know why Caitriona’s friends wished to keep their affair a secret from her, but it wasn’t her place to ruin the secret, she supposed. So, she swallowed her dismay at the entire situation and let the conversation continue.

The suggestion that they work on converting Evelyn’s notebook to something printed made practical sense, Evelyn supposed, but she didn’t think that her ideas were necessarily revolutionary. She’d mostly taken existing herbs and recipes and fixed them up so that they worked better. Caitriona was, in effect, creating whole new herbs! It was truly amazing stuff.

Caitriona looked unsure about having her work written and published, however, so Evelyn kept her own counsel and agreed that perhaps they could publish the books together as volumes one and two of a set. That made sense, certainly, and would meet both the needs of having both subjects covered while keeping any one volume of work from becoming unnecessarily large. “I like the idea of two volumes. They could even be published together as a set,” Evelyn said so that the others would know her feelings on the subject. “It makes a lot of sense, really.” She smiled at both Anders and Caitriona.

Caitriona had met Raelene and Fergus as well, as it turned out, and she had offered her services to them as a healer. Evelyn smiled when Anders explained gently that Caitriona wasn’t likely to receive a response from them because the castle already had its own healer. Evelyn nodded in agreement. “Olivia is a lovely woman,” she said, “and more than competent as a healer. I don’t get summoned there either, because she simply doesn’t need the help. But that leaves us and Marethel everybody else, and that works out just fine. We still get to help people, and that’s what’s important.” Evelyn smiled at Caitriona, then indicated the laboratory table. “Olivia doesn’t get a lot of time to experiment either, I don’t think, so we have that advantage as well. If we were in the castle we’d probably be interrupted every few minutes and never get anything done!” She grinned. “I think it was really sweet of you to offer to help, though. It never hurts to know somebody in case of an emergency.”

She turned back to her table and checked the flask. It was still going and it seemed to be at a good temperature, so she let it be for the moment. “Oh, I never put the kettle on for tea!” she realized aloud, and laughed quietly. “I’ll go do that right now.”

Caitríona was glad to know that Lady Rae and her husband at least had a very good healer at the castle. And Evelyn made a very good point; there was a lot of work to be done about the city and in the alienage. Important work. Good work. That was the most important thing to remember. The elf might have had lofty ideas of being able to one day walk down the hall of the castle as a respected healer, she knew those days were far off and were more than likely the idle fantasy of a over-energetic mind.

If there was any sadness to this admission, she did not let it show when she spoke up. Her voice was just a chipper as ever. "Well, as long as there's someone to help them, that's good!" she stated with a smile. "I mean, I guess thinking that I'd walk into town and become healer in a castle just because the Teyrn's wife was also Elvhen was probably a bit silly. I mean, I was lucky enough to bump into her at all. Literally!"

The elf kept a close eye on Evelyn as she moved to start up a kettle of tea. When she felt the coast was clear, she capered over to Anders and cupped a hand over his ear, surreptitiously whispering to him. "Talking later is important. I'm an aposotate and you seem like someone who can help..."

It was a risk, to be sure. One taken without much calculation. But if she didn't at least try, she knew that she'd never forgive herself. She took a step back and looked at the man nervously. If only vaguely, she was mindful of how quickly she could run to the door if she needed.

Evelyn agreed that two volumes published together seemed like the best solution, and Anders smiled, happy to actually be making a useful contribution. Not that he didn’t consider he did that at the Keep, but being with two people just as enthusiastic about his favoured subject outside of flirting made it that much better. The other healer also reassured Caitriona that there was nothing personal in not having been called by the teyrn or the teyrna to assist at the castle as there was already another healer in situ, and shared a bit more about the woman in question. Anders tried trawling through his memories to see if he could recall anybody from the Tower called Olivia, and he thought he recognised the name, but other than that he couldn’t recollect much else beyond what he had learned since coming to Highever during the plague.

Evelyn also pointed out the advantages that she had; without the concerns of looking after the teyrn, his family and whoever else entered the castle infirmary, they had the time to experiment and improve their various methods for combating whatever ill they encountered. Anders had a head-start on things like cuts, wounds, broken bones; set right, there was no way to improve on well-administered healing magic. But now everyone had access to that and if for some reason he was ever cut off from his powers, Anders wanted to still be a capable healer in his own right. So he liked to work alongside people like these two and learn with them rather than suggesting a snap of his fingers would be all they needed, as he’d heard one or two of the more arrogant healers in the Tower say.

Getting back to the idea of Caitriona helping out, well, if Olivia ever needed a spare pair of hands, then the teyrn knew the location of at least two sets with relevant training in his city now, as Evelyn pointed out. It was really nice of Caitriona to offer to help out, Evelyn said so, and Anders smiled at both women. They were both nice, even if Caitriona once again demonstrated a bit of naivety by explaining that she’d thought she could simply walk into Highever and become a healer at the castle just because she was an elf. Anders couldn’t imagine where she’d got that impression from. Maybe Auriana and this ‘William’ playing tricks on her again?

Hopefully not.

And as it turned out, she couldn’t be quite as sheltered as she seemed. When Evelyn left to make tea, the elven woman skittered over to stand by him and Anders obligingly lowered his head as she leaned up to whisper in his ear. He limited his reaction to the news with a slight raising of the brows, nothing that would make Evelyn start listening in.

An apostate, hm? A genuine escapee from the Tower, or a Dalish as he’d assumed? Those weren’t questions to ask now. He simply nodded. “Later. I’m staying at the Green Spears. We can talk in privacy there; this evening, if you like.”

He wasn’t going to say anything else on the subject in case it attracted Evelyn’s attention. Instead he thought of something to get conversation flowing. “Oh, sorry about singing at you the other night by the way, Evelyn! I hope it wasn’t ear-bleedingly awful?”

The kettle was filled and placed over the fire. Evelyn pulled some cookies and assorted dried fruits and the like from the pantry; there would be no cheese and crackers, she thought as she surveyed the fortress still on the kitchen table, but that was all right. Caitriona had made a rather impressive structure, particularly since she had not grown up indoors as Evelyn had. Her attention to detail was actually quite good. Evelyn hoped that Iain would appreciate the artistry of the endeavor as she shook her head and smiled. It was never dull in her and Iain’s house, was it?

She finished gathering up the tea service just as Anders’ voice drifted into the kitchen. He apologized for singing at her while he’d been drunk, and Evelyn laughed before she called back out into the main room. “It could have been worse, honestly. Besides, it’s not often that I get to be serenaded. I should be grateful, don’t you think?” She put the teapot on the tray, which was the last bit needed, and carried the tray into the main room. Caitriona had moved over to stand near Anders, presumably so they could chat, and Evelyn smiled at both of them as she put the tray down on the short table before the sofa before turning back to the laboratory table. “Please, feel free to start without me,” she said with a smile. “I’ll be right there as soon as I take this off the fire to cool.” One short movement of a flask and dousing of a burner later, and she was settling down on the couch to gather her tea together.

Caitríona had inched her way even closer to the door as Anders reacted to her revelation. She didn't know exactly what Grey Wardens were allowed to do when dealing with rogue mages but she couldn't discount the possibility that it was very much like what Templars could do. And that would be very bad for her. Much to her surprise, the man didn't do much of anything. A simple, understanding nod and a few quick words.

“Later. I’m staying at the Green Spears. We can talk in privacy there; this evening, if you like.”

It was more than she could handle. After Auriana left, she'd felt very much alone. Of course there was Marethel and Evelyn had proven very pleasant company but being unable to confide completely in some one was a heavy burden to bear. After Lucian, she knew that her time was running out. That she'd eventually have to leave or find friends in the city who could help her. And she didn't want to risk any trouble coming to Evelyn. That Anders seemed to understand all this, and with little more than the tilt of his head, was just too much. She leaped forward and gave the man a large huge, grasping to him.

"Thank you!" she said, holding back her tears. She jumped back at the sound of Evelyn's voice mentioning singing. "Oh! And you know herbs, fight darkspawn, and can sing too! That's nice."

She tried her best to seem alright, sniffling a bit but not much more. When Evelyn said they could start eating, the elf looked over the Anders. "What should we start with? There's no cheese though. I'm sorry!

Anders kept his reaction limited to avoid drawing Evelyn’s attention. He was perfectly willing to help out Caitriona as much as possible – although he couldn’t really offer her employment at the Keep, she’d stick out far more than Adara did and Nate would not be pleased with him offering work to every elven woman he ran into without knowing the reason. And if he did know the reason he’d be even more hacked off that Anders was using the Keep as a sort of safehouse for apostates. No, whatever help he could offer Caitriona had to be tied to Highever.

Caitriona responded to his indication that they should speak later with a hug that rearranged a few of his internal organs. After being assured that his ribs weren’t going to crack, he returned it for a few moments, keeping an eye on the kitchen door in case Evelyn came in and wanted to know why her assistant was hugging him. Fortunately, the healer called through from the kitchen in response to Anders’ apology, and Caitriona disentangled herself quickly, her interest evidently caught in the idea of Anders serenading anyone. "Oh! And you know herbs, fight darkspawn, and can sing too! That's nice."

Anders chuckled. “The singing is debateable,” he said. “I was somewhat drunk at the time, which I don’t think helped things.”

Evelyn came in with a tray full of goodies and set them down, indicating that they should help themselves as she went to tend to the burner (and avoid burning the whole place down around their ears). Caitriona dithered over the first helping, so Anders took a handful of the dried fruit and some tea. It was definitely much better for him than the quarts of ale consumed two nights ago and he set to happily, grinning at Caitriona apologised about there not being any cheese available.

“You made a magnificent sculpture out of it,” he said, before looking up at Evelyn, including her in the conversation. “I can’t say I’ve got a hand for that. How about you, Evelyn? I know Iain draws, do you do any arty things?”

Evelyn did her best to refrain from chuckling when Caitriona apologized for a lack of cheese at tea. It had been rather … unusual … to build a sculpture out of food, but Evelyn had found Caitriona’s enthusiasm for the project irresistible and had not discouraged her assistant from pouring her energy into it. Of course, they were out of cheese, but they could get more. She idly wondered if Manny would notice the additional expense and decided it wasn’t enough to worry about it.

Anders seemed to enjoy the project as well. He told Caitriona that she’d made quite a good scuplture and then looked at Evelyn as she turned back toward the sofas to collect her tea now that she’d taken the flask off its burner. He asked Evelyn if she did anything artistic, and Evelyn shook her head and smiled. “No, I’m not particularly talented in anything creative of that nature,” she said with a touch of ruefulness to her expression. “I’m not a good singer and I’m terrible at instruments. I can draw just well enough to sketch herbs in my notebooks, but you’ve seen those.” She smiled again then. “It’s fine though. I just figure my sister Abegail got all the artistic talent in the family. You should see her work. It’s truly something.”

Caitríona perked up a bit at the mention of Evelyn's sister. There was so much she was still learning about her new master. Perhaps the thought had never occurred to her or maybe it was because Cait simply had been so engrossed with their work to bother with too many unrelated questions. Maybe she'd just forgotten the information. But the mention of a sister come as something as a shock. If anything, it certainly altered the elf's mental image of a young Evelyn alone in a big house accompanied by mages. A sister went a long way to making a childhood bearable. Instinctively, the elf thought of her own sister, Saraid. She missed her home very much.

She did her best not to let it show, however. Oh! Does she paint? Or is it something more...unique, like being a living statue. There was a someone doing that in the market last week. Terrified me. Anyway, I bet your sister is very talented. I mean, you are after all!

She grinned at the woman before turning to Anders. "What about you? Any family? Beside Sir Pouncalot, that is! Speaking of him, where is he? I want to meet him. I bet he has good stories to tell![/quote]

The elf absentmindedly began to play with her feet as she waited on the man's reply, but not before thinking out loud. "On the subject of herbs, Anders...do you think that magic could be...put into herbs? Could someone with healing magic maybe use that to help the plant grow and do you think that would have any effect on them?

Anders listened with interest as Evelyn described another of her sisters; he’d been vaguely aware of Blythe during the plague but hadn’t had much opportunity to meet her as plague plus pregnancy would likely not end well. He knew Jenna a little better, although not by much. If he had it right, the one Evelyn was talking about was the sister next up from her in age, and according to the healer had inherited most of the artistic talent in the family.

“What does she specialise in, then? Does she like landscapes or prefer doing people?” Anders had never been quite sure which he would prefer were he artistically inclined. Being able to conjure up an entire mountain range or town or ocean on a few square feet of canvas would be something, but people were fascinating and very diverse. Plus, it would give him a reason to people-watch if he had a sketchpad in his hand, without being accused of being nosy. Even if he was being nosy at the time.

Catriona expanded upon the question, focusing more on what materials Evelyn’s sister preferred. Anders smiled as the elf put forward the idea of one of the Kincades being a living statue. He shouldn’t really make an assumption about a woman he’d never met, but if Abegail shared the same drive as the rest of her sisters then there was no chance she would restrict herself to a profession that involved standing completely still for hours on end. Catriona then fired a compliment in Evelyn’s direction before turning her attention back to him.

"What about you? Any family? Beside Sir Pouncalot, that is! Speaking of him, where is he? I want to meet him. I bet he has good stories to tell!”

“Well, we’re encouraged to call each other brothers and sister within the Wardens, so they serve as my family.” Anders kept a pleasant smile firmly in place, not wanting to ruin the mood by becoming morose. “And it’s the oddest family ever, really. Humans and elves and dwarves with a taste for combat all thrown together.” He grinned at the idea of being actually related to Oghren – I’d make a good-looking dwarf – before answering her next question. “I had to leave Pounce in Amaranthine, he’s not exactly a fan of the ocean. And I’m sure he would, although most of the stories would probably compromise of accounts on his own cleverness at getting every one of the Wardens to give him food throughout the day.”

The Dalish woman looked downwards and started playing with her feet. Anders resisted the urge to raise an eyebrow. "On the subject of herbs, Anders...do you think that magic could be...put into herbs? Could someone with healing magic maybe use that to help the plant grow and do you think that would have any effect on them?

Anders looked thoughtful. “To be honest, I haven’t had much success in imbuing potions with magic to improve their effects. I’ve tried, but I haven’t cracked a method of getting a solid substance to hold traces of a spell; I imagine the process would be a little similar to how armourers embed weapons with runes to improve some aspect of them, but it hasn’t translated across very well. That’s not to say I don’t think it can be done,” he added. “Just that it requires more experimentation.”

Evelyn smiled as both Anders and Caitriona asked about Abegail’s talents with her paintbrush. “She seems to prefer color, and perhaps ideas. Mostly I have seen her paint whatever the mood strikes; she has painted all sorts of things, from imagined people, to landscapes, to interesting struuctures. And no, she does not act as a ‘living statue’. I should think that she would find that rather odd, even if she doesn’t mind attention very much.” Evelyn thought about her artistic sister then and realized that she had not contacted her in some time. She should do that soon, so that she not be negligent to her family.

Caitriona turned to the subject of Anders, asking about his family apart from his cat. Evelyn had not thought to ask that question before, so she found Anders’ answer illuminating. Apparently the other Grey Wardens constituted a sort of family for him, full of brothers and sisters. That should have been beneficial, Evelyn thought, since they fought together regularly, right?

The next subject broached regarded herbs being infused with magic to enhance their healing properties. If that was possible, it would have been wonderful, even if it did put Evelyn out of business! Anders said that he had never had any reliable successes trying that, which made Evelyn nod. She’d never encountered any stories of magic working significantly in the process of creating healing mixtures in the copious research she’d undertaken over the years, but there was always a possibility of something new being discovered! Unfortunately, they were not the ones to discover a way that magic could significantly help herbalism, at least not yet. If Anders was hopeful that something could be discovered, then Evelyn would be as well.

Caitríona smiled widely as Anders spoke, all of his answers filling her with excitement. Not only was she quite please to hear that Sir Pounce a Lot did indeed have stories to tell (and stories that ended with free food, which were some of the best kinds of stories, but she was also very relieved to hear that the Wardens functioned sort of as a family. Honestly, to hear the man speak, it sounded a lot like living in a Dalish clan. Except with more smelly dwarves and sneaky shemlen. Still, it was good enough. And it made her quite happy.

"It must be nice." she said dreamily, playing with her big toe. "You know, I worried when Auri left to be a Warden but it's good to know that you all are so close. I guess you have to be, what with the fighting of darkspawn. Especially now there're invisible ones about."

There was a pause. She sighed. "I miss her. And my own family too..

She shook it off, stopping to think for a moment before switching the subject. "All my attempts to imbue herbs with anything magical have failed terribly.....Umm....mostly because I can't do magic! That's right! But I'll sometimes chant a bit when mixing herbs and hope that works. Probably not the best way. Maybe you can tell me more about magic later?" she asked, hitting the last word with overdue emphasis.

After this, she turned to look at Evelyn. "I'm sure your sister is a lovely person. After all, she related to you and you're the best master I've ever gotten to work under, including my father.
