Aedan considered the piece of an animal, but he did not recognize it. He glanced at Alistair and wasn't sure he did either. He shook his head and looked at Siri, "I will see to it that a party is sent to where you indicated on the map. They should be brought here or to, at the very least, Highever. My brother will care for them there."

He looked at Siri and then to Alistair, "I should compose a letter of introduction to assure it. But we can have the party out just after mid day."

Alistair met Aeden’s confused glance and reciprocated with his own. He fingered the piece of cloth meticulously, holding it up to the light. “Looks like…” but he couldn’t quite make it out, he scrunched up his face and squinted trying to make out the tiny details. “Possibly some sort of claw or talon? I’m not quite sure, I’m afraid.” Alistair murmured trying to decipher the image. It was like a tiny piece of a much larger jigsaw puzzle; this would be difficult.

There was a short silence that was broken by Siri, "I can remain here but I fear for my family...I do not know what to do anymore...I just want peace." She sighed and shook her head as she said this. Alistair felt his heart ache, feeling her sadness. It not been too long ago that he had wished only for peace too. He recalled the months of running from one battle to another, countless bodies left in their wake. Oh, how he had longed for peace then. His battle had ended a year ago in Denerim, but Siri’s had continued all this time and he simply couldn’t imagine the mental exhaustion that had been weighing on her and her family’s shoulders. He found himself lost in his thoughts and memories of his own struggles until Aeden broke the silence.

"I will see to it that a party is sent to where you indicated on the map. They should be brought here or to, at the very least, Highever. My brother will care for them there. I should compose a letter of introduction to assure it. But we can have the party out just after mid day." Aeden spoke determinedly, bringing Alistair back from his reminiscing. “Yes.” he reacted quickly, speaking with authority and resolve, “Dyson may be a lot of things but he isn’t a complete fool. They would be safe within either keep, be it Highever or here with us.” he paused and took a deep breath. “Good idea, my friend.” he said, looking at Aeden and smiling in appreciation. He now addressed both of them, “In the meantime, I have an idea. I do believe there is documentation within the royal library that records all the heraldry of Ferelden’s noble lines. This includes their coat of arms and symbols that they may use. It isn’t much, but it may give us some clues.” A smug smirk broke across his face, proud of his clever detective work.

Siri listened to the options and figured both were right. Her family needed to be secured so Dyson didn't attempt anything by his own hand or some other means. She looked at Aedan, "I think it is best to keep us separated. Since I am here Highever may be the best place to send them. My reasoning is that Dyson would attempt to strike at us if grouped together. If we are separated then he will pick a target...most likely me since I have dealt him a embarrassing blow to his ego. I am willing to be bait for my family's safety if it means ending this quarrel that has gone on far too long."

Her eyes shifted to Alistair and she found his smirk rather cute. She smiled a little, "It might take time to find this particular symbol or what have you but it can be done. If we don't find it in your library of books then we know the support is not from Ferelden by elsewhere yes?"

She felt grateful for their help and knew this was the right course. It seemed that some of the weight on her shoulders had lifted now and she could breathe a little easier. She sipped more of the wine before moving again to each man. Gently she kissed their cheeks to show her gratitude then smiled at them both, "Ravyn tradition in how to greet or thank friends. It's probably the only Orlesian custom we've kept considering what happened during their occupation. Forgive me if it was a bit much. It's just for the first time it feels like something good will come of this."

Aedan smiled faintly as she kissed their cheeks and thought it would have drived Loghain nuts. Perfect. He glanced at Alistair and thought he saw the man blushing. Excellent! "Not a worry, Lady Ravyn. I should go, however. I will, perhaps, see you both in the royal library later." He smirked as he turned and gave Alistair a 'have fun' look before leaving them alone.

He headed for his room first to compose the letter. He had a small writing desk in the corner which he rarely used. He was careful in his wording and made no room for mistake. The Ravyn family was to be accorded comfort and treated with the respect given to any of the other Banns. He made it also quite clear they were under Highever's protection and the King's, lest Dyson manage to track them so far as Highever and force the issue. He sealed it with his signet ring and then went in search of the soldiers he'd send out.

It didn't take him long to find the right men for the job. They were Redcliffe men and thus were assuredly loyal to Eamon and Alistair. He gave their Captain the letter and marked on a map where they could expect to find them. "Do not risk a fight with them. Announce yourselves if you come upon anyone. If any of Dyson's soldiers attempt to stop you, remind them you're on the King's business. If they fail in their duty to the crown to step aside... kill them."

"Yes, milord," the captain nodded with understanding. More politics, Aedan thought, was likely what he was thinking. "Good man, Captain. Protect your men's lives too," he smiled faintly.

"I think it is best to keep us separated. Since I am here Highever may be the best place to send them. My reasoning is that Dyson would attempt to strike at us if grouped together. If we are separated then he will pick a target...most likely me since I have dealt him a embarrassing blow to his ego. I am willing to be bait for my family's safety if it means ending this quarrel that has gone on far too long." Alistair listened as she spoke and wondered if she was making the right decision. But then again, this made him more determined; he would not fail to protect an innocent living under his protection. He wouldn’t forgive himself if he did. “If that is what you so wish, so be it.” he replied simply. He could tell from her tone and body language that she was resolute. There would be no changing her mind, underneath her noble and delicate appearance there was a strong independent woman. She would do what needed to be done. He admired her for this.

He nodded in acknowledgement as she mentioned that his search for the symbol may take some time. He sighed as she finished, “My biggest fear is that it will, as you say, be support from outside the country.” he prayed that this would not be the case; he couldn’t begin to think of the political upheaval it had the potential to cause. Although, he was at an advantage. If his library documentation failed to identify the symbol he could always ask Jeremie’s opinion. He prayed it would not come to it but yes, Jeremie would be familiar with Orlesian heraldry. Maybe having the Orlesian brat around wouldn’t be too much of an inconvenience after all. ‘Please Maker, don’t let it be Orlais,’ he though to himself. That was the last thing he needed right now, just as relations were starting to pick up. He finally spoke up after a few moments silence. “If Dyson is fool enough to start anything under my roof I promise he will suffer a fate worse than death,” he said, trying to sound as reassuring as possibly while at the same time trying to control his anger.

And then, something unexpected happened. Siri moved towards him, catching him off his guard. “Wha…” was all that managed to escape his throat as she leaned quickly into him, kissing him on the cheek. He stood unblinking for a moment, his mouth slightly agape, shocked at the gesture that befell him. He was paralysed to the spot looking at her in disbelief as she did the same to Aedan. "Ravyn tradition in how to greet or thank friends. It's probably the only Orlesian custom we've kept considering what happened during their occupation. Forgive me if it was a bit much. It's just for the first time it feels like something good will come of this."

He now felt the hot rush of color flooding to his face and tried to avoid Aedan's gaze. His eyes darted back and forth, his hands fidgeting constantly; he could even feel his ears turning a dark maroon. “I….” he began “…I mean, you…” he stammered, “You, you’re welcome!” he finally managed to push out of his mouth. He brought his hand up and rubbed the back of his neck, grinning and feeling awkward. He groaned as Aedan left the room, ‘He’s meant to rescue me from these situations! The blighter!’ Alistair scowled in his mind, he needed and excuse, this was getting awkward. “I erm… I’d better go make a start on finding that documentation,” he stammered, smiling at Siri. “Please make yourself at home in the meantime.” True, it was just a custom as she said, but he just simply couldn't keep his head with womanly affection. Especially not from a lady like Siri.

Siri didn't expect to get the reaction she did out of Alistair. Aedan had seem to take the kiss in stride like it was second nature to accept such while Alistair looked so flustered. She blushed wondering if she had done wrong but that slowly faded as she watched him stammer through his words looking totally different from the hardened King she saw earlier. It made her smile and softly she giggled seeing him want to make a hasty departure from her. She covered her lips just enough with her fingertips as she giggled and watched Alistair more. He looked cute like this at least to her he did.

"I apologize for my laughter, your majesty." Siri began as she lowered her hand from her mouth and smiled softly as her eyes seemed to twinkle a bit. She was happy to see a human side to the King, "I just find your reaction different than others. I suppose I did surprise you and for that I am sorry....though you do look very handsome and cute when you are this way. I admire that."

She blushed again then shyly looked away, "Um...Shall I go to do some searching as well or am I to just wait? I suppose I would be a distraction...I mean..." For a moment she fidgeted before she looked at Alistair still blushing but not as red as him and she smiled despite her blush, "Thank you. Perhaps I need to speak with Arl Eamon or answer questions from him? Maybe he can help you in finding out more on the cloth?"

He blushed more as she apologized for her actions. “No need to apologize my lady,” he said hurriedly, feeling his bumbling nature coming to the surface, managing an awkward chuckle. “It’s just I seem to be rather, how do I put it? Indulged in affection recently.” he laughed nervously as he managed to squeeze this out. "Embarrassingly, a new experience for me," he admitted. True, he had had noblewomen thrown at him, but he had always been able to brush it off; these women he met lately were acting of their own accord.

His face was getting increasingly redder as he spoke of how handsome and cute she thought he looked. He had always thought himself rather plain when he was growing up; moreover his time in the Chantry didn’t provide much opportunity to mingle with opposite sex. None who weren’t celibate, anyway. To make matters worse, a sweating, blood stained and battle weary Templar-in-training wasn’t the biggest turn on for women.

It wasn’t until lately he had found himself victim of these advances from women. This wasn’t a good thing however; it just made it even more difficult to tell who wanted him, who was being polite, and who simply wanted to improve their family’s status. At least Siri seemed like the decent sort, and a genuinely lovely person. Alistair reassured himself it was all just custom and protocol to give kisses on the cheek as she had said and was slowly able to calm himself down.

“If we divide our efforts we may come to a conclusion quicker. If you would like to go and speak to Arl Eamon be my guest I am sure he would welcome you warmly and provide all the assistance you require. However, you are most welcome to accompany me to the library and help me sort through dusty, flea bitten old documents if you wish.” he smirked at this last bit imagining her disgust at the smell of grimy old parchment and documents stained by the hands of time.

Siri looked at Alistair curiously wondering why he was smirking. She wasn't too sure if there was some sort of inside joke she was oblivious to. As her hazel eyes focused on his she just smiled a bit, "I suppose dusty rolls of parchment, moldy smells and Maker knows what else wouldn't be too different from sleeping in the mud for a year, dealing with the smell of blood, dirty laundry and rotten food would it?" She shrugged a little then moved to follow him, "Of course if you prefer to be alone...in a poorly lit room with the scrolls I can understand and inform Arl Eamon of your new hobby."

Judging by the reaction she got from Alistair she figured that he was testing her to see if she was really a fussy noble's daughter or what she portrayed herself to be, a fighter that had little knowledge of all the formalities of court. She smirked slightly, "Considering what I've gone through in the past year I high doubt I will be squeamish when it comes to dealing with old documents. Maybe once we get this all sorted out you can test my skills in a friendly duel?"

She let that offer sink in before she moved past him into the hall with Lily following with her pack. As Siri looked down the hall she wondered which way to go now. If she went to Arl Eamon she wasn't too sure what to say to him. If she stayed with Alistair she would probably be somewhat of a burden. She stayed there for a moment debating her options before she looked back to Alistair, "Would you prefer that I leave you to the documents? I've already made you uncomfortable as it is."

"Considering what I've gone through in the past year I high doubt I will be squeamish when it comes to dealing with old documents. Maybe once we get this all sorted out you can test my skills in a friendly duel?" Alistair felt a bit bad for even suggesting she might not be able to 'handle' it, considering the hardships her family had faced. He made a mental note to mind his words from then on. Alistair smiled at her, content with her answer anyway. "Good." he began simply, "It's nice to know you won't cry if you get a bit of mud on your shoes, unlike some of the other ladies around here," he said, delivering a mocking blow to the constant lineup of noble's daughters he was offered.

He then considered her offer of a duel, "In my line of experience there is no such thing as a 'friendly' duel, especially with women!" he said mockingly, it was nice to lighten to mood after all this serious discussion. His experience of 'friendly' duelling with Leliana has resulted in him dropping to the floor clutching between his legs within 15 seconds. He had been wary of duelling with ladies after that, he had given Leliana silent treatment for a week afterwards. The whole situation was much to the amusement of their companions, especially Morrigan who teased him relentlessly about it for days. "But that is quite the idea. I'd love to see what you could do with a shield," Alistair said with a smirk, clearly overcoming his bashfulness the moment before.

He followed her out of the room and into the corridor. He came up behind her as she paused at the intersection, debating where to go. "Would you prefer that I leave you to the documents? I've already made you uncomfortable as it is." He considered her offer. He did suppose that it would be rather harsh to send her to speak to the Arl on her own, especially after the day she'd had. He made up his mind. "Tell you what, come with me to the library and we'll get through it quicker. Who knows, you may see something that jogs your memory," he said with a friendly smile. He gestured down the right corridor with his thumb, towards the library.

Siri nodded as she headed the direction Alistair had indicated it. She noticed the lack of light in the hall but wasn't afraid of it as they drew closer to the library, "Do you hide in here to avoid the other noble's daughters in hopes the smells and whatnot keep them at bay?" She glanced back at him with a slight grin on her lips before her hand rested on the door knob. As she pushed the door open she could tell not many used this particular library which was a pity considering how many books were inside. As she moved in she looked for a way to add some light to the room, "Well we might need some candles if we are going to be able to see what we are doing."

She let Lily go in and took the pack from the mabari to set on a chair before moving carefully to find a way to open the windows to let in some air. As she reached for one she found herself a bit short but it didn't stop her from trying. With care she climbed a shelf them reached again this time managing to succeed. She coughed a little from the dust then wrinkled her nose before getting down and joining Alistair again, "Shall I send Lily to find your friend or shall we just get started and let him join us later?"

“It has been known to repel one or two women of noble lineage,” he said with a smirk, “However, I find rolling around in the mud works just as well if not better,” he said sarcastically and in good humour. He entered the library, following behind Siri who lead the way. This was the oldest library in the palace, if it could still be called a library at all. Over the years it had become more of a store-room than a library. The books contained here had worn covers, and most of them had chunks missing from them as well. The air was thick and stifling; Alistair wagered that fresh air hadn’t entered the room in some time. To his right he could see old parchment piled and strewn about old oak wood tables. They were all caked in dust and cobwebs. He coughed as he breathed in the stale smell. “This could take some time,” he choked.

Alistair agreed with Siri that the lack of light could be somewhat of an issue, what with attempting to read books. As she ventured over to open one of the windows, he noticed a small batch of candles lying side by side under some parchments. Alistair slid three of them from underneath the parchment and into his hands before placing them on a relatively empty table down the center. He lit them one by one, their orange glow coupled with the fresh air from the newly opened window seemed to give the old room a new life. He could almost see himself getting cosy in here, if it weren't for the dustbunnies.

“I’m sure Aeden will warm to Lily much more than my presence,” he said sarcastically in agreement. He remembered Aeden’s affection for Mabari hounds, and thought of his dog Perceus. He however was rather indifferent having nearly lost his hands to Percy on several occasions. He must say though that he had rapidly developed a soft spot for the Mabari and dare he say he even liked him, despite it being a moody little mutt. "Sure, why not?"

Siri smirked a little at Alistair's quip about rolling around in mud, "Well you would definitely get along with my brothers then. Of course a little mud doesn't harm anyone." She laughed and shook her head before joining him at the table, "As for this taking some time...I can see that but perhaps while we search we can clean this place up a bit? Granted I'm not the picky type I rather like breathing without dust in my nose or in my lungs if you get my meaning. Once the open windows take some of the dust out it'll be rather pleasant in here I think." She helped move a few books around then moved her fingertips over a cover then inspected the dust, "It really is a shame no one comes in here. I love to read...It's one of my favorite ways to escape aside from writing or doing something with music. Reading always let me use my imagination to see how things were or at least how I thought they were at any rate."

Once she was done rambling she looked to Lily, "Well girl why don't you go find the kind Grey Warden and bring him here?" She took her pack from the mabari then set it in a corner before watching Lily scamper off happily. It made her smile more to see Lily so happy, "She's been a bit bored lately. Giving her a mission seems to make her feel good so I would make things up for her while out in the fields. It's funny to see what she would bring back. I think she even brought me a broken sword once."

As she returned to Alistair's side she tapped her chin, "Um I think I do have one thing I'll have to take care of...My armor, sword, shield and my bigger pack are at the Gnawed Noble under the care of the tavern keeper. I paid him all that I could spare to make sure he didn't tell anyone of my presence. Do you think perhaps a courier could be sent to collect them? I would hate to lose them." She looked up at Alistair and smiled softly, "And as if I haven't said it enough thank you for helping my family. Once this is over if there is anything we can do please let us know." She shifted her attention to the stacks of books and rolls of parchment before moving to read over how they were divided. As she studied the names she began to pull various books and managed to carry them back to the table proving she was no weak lady but someone that could stand on her own two feet.

Aedan had not been idle while he was away from the pair. He had spoken briefly with Eamon and they had agreed to have Dyson followed by a King's messenger, with orders to report back on Dyson's activities in the city. They didn't want any trouble in Denerim from Dyson and, given the spectacle in Alistair's court, they couldn't rule out the man's boldness.

After having seen to that, Aedan had sent other messengers in anticipation that Alistair would invite Siri to be a guest at the palace. Several messengers went to each of the major inns in the city to ask over her and obtain her belongings. Aedan doubted he was presuming badly and, upon running into Lily just outside the library, found he had assumed rightly as he heard their talk inside.

He smirked and entered, the dog giving away his presence with a bark, "There will be no need for that. I sent a man to each of the inns to see which was yours and to obtain your baggage, milady. The Gnawed Noble, I believe I heard you say, was yours. It was on my list." He glanced at Alistair and smiled, "Find anything worth while yet," he asked, his teasing grin telling his friend more than his words what he thought he might have found. Siri wouldn't see his grin from the angle he was at to her when he spoke to Alistair.

"Perhaps while we search we can clean this place up a bit? Granted I'm not the picky type I rather like breathing without dust in my nose or in my lungs if you get my meaning." Siri commented, looking to Alistair with a smirk on her lips before moving to pick up some of the stray books and parchments. "Sounds like a good idea to me, if you don't mind the dust. I don't think Cailan was particularly interested in reading, by the looks of things," Alistair replied, looking about for a good place to start. He went to work at her side for a few minutes, listening to her talk with a smile on his face as he reordered books in the right places. He made a mental note to send a maid to this room once they had left so that it might be dusted and swept clean.

"It really is a shame no one comes in here. I love to read...It's one of my favorite ways to escape aside from writing or doing something with music." Siri said in a way that seemed happily, Alistair pausing for a moment to think to himself. "I love to read as well, my lady. It's a lovely library, but to be quite honest I sometimes forget it's here. I rarely have more than a moment to myself in the past year, and odd things seem to fill up the gaps in between meetings as of late," he said with a silly grin on his face, thinking of Shalia and Jeremie and even Kae'lin, among other surprises he'd seen in the past days. "I ought to make more time though. Once it's cleaned up, you can come here any time." he offered kindly, looking back towards her.

"She's been a bit bored lately. Giving her a mission seems to make her feel good so I would make things up for her while out in the fields." Siri said, describing Lily. She was a cute dog, and smart as they come by the looks of things. "Perhaps she should meet Perceus, Aedan's Mabari. They'd get on well I think," he suggested, thinking of Percy again. He paused. "Lily is a beautiful specimen, not unlike her master," he said shyly, his ears turning red as he tried his hand at flirting. He also wanted to show he wasn't an awkward bumbling fool of a King as he had displayed before; maybe with some work he could be, you know, normal. His meeting Shalia had encouraged him to be more outgoing with women.

As Siri returned to Alistair's side, he smiled down at her as she tapped her chin thoughtfully and asked him about retrieving her belongings from the inn. Alistair nodded as she spoke again, adding her thanks and an offer. "Once this is over if there is anything we can do please let us know." Alistair looked at her thoughtfully, already working up some ideas in his mind. "Certainly I will. And we'll see what can be done about your belongings, but I promise they will not be lost," Alistair said as she selected books and carried them to a table. "My lady, did you say you write music?" he asked, going over her previous words and realizing what she had said. Being a musician was a skill that always impressed and intrigued him deeply.

"There will be no need for that." Aedan said, appearing in the doorway and speaking in response to Siri's request. "Good on you then, Aedan," Alistair replied with a nod. Always one step ahead, but that's why it was good to have him around. "Find anything worth while yet," Aedan said, glancing at Alistair. There was something teasing about his tone that made him raise an eyebrow. "We haven't really gotten around to looking through the books yet," Alistair replied densely, narrowing his eyes suspiciously at Aedan while he wondered what he meant by that. Had he heard his lame attempt at a compliment?

Siri blushed when she heard Alistair's complement and almost got shy over it as she replied softly, "You're too kind. I rarely hear such words." She turned her attention back to the books and started to make neat piles to go through before the question of writing music was brought up, "Well I do try. My mother was far more gifted and her tune sticks in my head a lot. Perhaps when we get some time I can play for you and Lord Aedan. You will have to forgive my singing. I usually don't sing for anyone but Lily and mabari don't tend to judge their friends." She laughed softly before her attention turned when Lily barked.

Aedan entered with a grin and Siri blushed more. She had to wonder how much was heard but pushed that aside after hearing he had taken care of her things, "That is very kind of you. Thank you so much." She smiled softly as showed her appreciation. It was tempting to kiss the cheeks of Aedan and Alistair again but she refrained for the time being.
